Police are appealing for help to identify the owner of a dog believed to be a Labrador after it was found alone at the water’s edge on the Roedean undercliff.
Officers were called to the coastal location at around 3pm on Wednesday, 28 January, after receiving a report that a dog had been discovered unaccompanied by the sea. Concern was raised for the welfare of both the animal and its owner, prompting an immediate response.
A coordinated search was carried out along the shoreline and nearby land to check whether anyone was in difficulty. Police also carried out a number of enquiries, including checks on the dog’s microchip, in an effort to trace where it may have come from and who it belongs to.
Despite these efforts, officers say they have so far been unable to identify or locate the dog’s owner. The animal is described as being Labrador-type, and police are keen to reunite it with its family as soon as possible.
Police are now asking anyone who may be missing a dog, or who recognises the image, to get in touch. They are also urging people to share the appeal with friends, family and local dog owners, in case someone recognises the animal or knows who it belongs to.
Anyone with information that could help identify the owner is asked to contact police online or by calling 101. Information should be passed on quoting reference number 838 of 28 January.
