Council tax bills in Fareham could rise by 2.99 per cent under proposals for the 2026/27 financial year.
If approved by full council on February 20, the rise would see the charge for a Band D property increase to £197.14, an uplift of £5.72 compared with the current year.
The increase forms part of the council’s wider budget strategy to address rising costs while continuing to deliver essential local services.
Budget papers cite ongoing pressures on services, inflation, and the need for continued investment in community infrastructure as the main drivers behind the proposal.
The report also sets out a balanced revenue budget of £16,151,300, alongside a five-year capital programme totalling £32,743,100, from 2025/26 to 2029/30.
Speaking at a recent meeting, Cllr Fred Birkett, executive member for housing, said: “I’d like to thank officers for putting in so much work behind this, enabling the council to provide a fully costed and workable budget again.
“We all seem to be penalised for doing a great job down here, and it is very disappointing to see the hard work we do transferred to somewhere else in the country.”
The proposed council tax increase and budget will be debated at full council on February 20, when the administration formally presents its plans.
