Emergency services are responding to a serious collision tonight in Westergate, near Chichester.

The crash is believed to involve two vehicles on Westergate Street, close to the junction with Ivy Lane in the last hour or so. A white BMW and a red car were involved in the incident, which has prompted a significant emergency response.

Eyewitnesses at the scene say the occupants of the BMW got out of the vehicle shortly after the collision and ran from the area. Police have launched a search operation to locate them, using specialist resources including drones and a helicopter.

The road remains busy as emergency crews continue their work, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area where possible and allow extra time for their journeys. It is not yet clear whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Police have not confirmed further details at this stage and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash is being urged to contact officers.
