Classic motorcycles and smartly dressed riders from across West Sussex will return to Chichester city centre for the grand finish of their annual charity ride on Sunday 17 May.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is a global charity event in aid of men’s health charity Movember. It celebrates vintage and classic motorcycles, along with the dapper-dressed riders who take part.
The West Sussex ride will begin in Shoreham before finishing in Chichester at around 1pm. Riders will parade along North Street, through to West Street and South Street.
The event has visited the city centre for the past three years, raising tens of thousands of pounds for men’s mental health support.
Chichester District Council is again supporting the event by organising a dapper and classic themed market in the city centre. Around 18 stalls will be based along East Street from 10am until 4pm.
Local businesses taking part include Mono Motorcycles, St Wilfrid’s Hospice’s vintage and retro shop, The Almshouse, Made Sideways, Mucky Duck Spa, Angela’s Attic and Vintage Moda.
The Escapist will showcase its specially brewed DGR low alcohol beer, while The George & Dragon pub will be attending with its food trailer.
Movember, Rotary Novum Beacon, Chichester District Council’s Wellbeing team and the new men’s mental health hub Brothers, Bangers, Bikes and Brews will also be there to offer information and advice.
The bikes will park in West Street and South Street near the Market Cross until around 4pm, while music will be provided by Remember the Night.
“We’re really pleased to be working with the ride organisers again this year,” says Laurence Foord, Divisional Manager for Licensing, Communications and Events at Chichester District Council. “It’s a unique event that supports a wonderful cause – last year’s event created a real spectacle in the city centre which many people enjoyed. The idea behind the dapper market is to help enhance the event, encourage people into the city centre to enjoy the motorcycles and stay longer to support local traders and businesses.
“As a council we are always looking to work with other event organisers to help them make the most of their offering. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is in aid of a fantastic cause and we look forward to seeing the riders - we hope that as many people as possible will come and give them a huge welcome!”
