Updated: 28/08/2025 10:30am - An easyJet flight from Manchester to Alicante was forced to divert to London Gatwick after the aircraft declared a general emergency mid-flight.

Flight EZY13WB was almost over northern France last night when it suddenly turned back towards the UK, routing over the English Channel near Selsey.

At around 19:35, the aircraft transmitted a squawk code 7700, the standard signal to Air Traffic Control indicating an emergency on board.

The flight landed safely at London Gatwick at 19:56. Airport officials said they were unable to provide further details about the nature of the incident.

An EasyJet spokesperson said: “Flight EZY13WB from Manchester to Alicante on 27 August diverted to Gatwick due to a customer requiring urgent medical attention.

“The customer was met by medical services and the flight then continued to Alicante. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”

Despite the emergency, flight tracking data shows that the same aircraft continue its journey to Alicante from Gatwick at 20:56, less than an hour after landing.
