A firefighter from Bognor Regis is preparing to take on a gruelling 12-hour challenge to raise money for a national charity that supports firefighters and their families.
Mark Checketts, who is based at Bognor Regis Fire Station, is set to spend an entire day skipping to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity. The challenge will take place on Monday the 30th of December, outside Sainsbury’s in Bognor Regis, starting at 7am and running throughout the day.
Mark has been speaking to Tanya McCarthy on Brunch Hour, where he explained how the idea for the fundraiser first came about. He said he wanted to do something both eye-catching and physically demanding to help raise awareness and vital funds for a charity that provides support to firefighters during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
The Fire Fighters Charity offers physical, emotional and financial support to serving and retired firefighters, as well as their families. The charity helps those recovering from injury, coping with mental health challenges or dealing with the long-term effects of working on the frontline of emergency services.
Mark says the 12-hour skipping challenge will be a test of endurance, but he hopes it will encourage members of the public to stop, donate and learn more about the work the charity does. Shoppers passing through the area are being encouraged to show their support, whether by donating, offering encouragement, or simply stopping to find out more about the cause.
Mark is encouraging anyone who cannot attend on the day to support the fundraiser online, and says every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. The event is open to the public, and supporters are welcome to come along throughout the day to cheer him on as he takes on the 12-hour challenge for charity.
