The first snow of the season made an appearance across the South this morning, surprising many residents as wintry showers swept across the region. While forecasts had hinted at colder conditions, the sudden arrival of snowflakes, at times mixed with hail, created a short-lived but eye-catching winter moment.
Listeners to V2 Radio began sending in reports, with the first flurries spotted in Bognor Regis, across Chichester, Selsey, Horsham and Littlehampton, where residents described everything from light drifting flakes to sudden, heavier bursts.
Further east, Seaford, Eastbourne and Hastings all experienced sharp, intense bursts of snowfall.
The wintry mix was unpredictable, with hail showers often accompanying the snowfall. The rapidly changing showers created tricky conditions for commuters, who encountered wet roads, sudden visibility changes and bursts of sleet in exposed areas.

Images shared by listeners showed everything from dustings on rooftops to brief whiteouts during the heaviest bursts. For many, it offered a rare moment of early winter excitement, especially in areas that rarely see snowfall this early in the season.
The Met Office has indicated that temperatures will remain low throughout the day, meaning further isolated wintry showers are possible. However, the snow is not expected to settle for long, with milder conditions returning later in the week.
