Free activities for children and young people are coming to parks across Mid Sussex this May half term.
Mid Sussex District Council is bringing back its popular Skate Fest events, giving young people the chance to try something new, learn from experienced coaches, or improve their existing skills.
The events are free to attend and no booking is required, with families able to simply turn up and take part.
Each Skate Fest session will include live demonstrations and coaching from experienced providers. There will be a different focus at each location, including skateboarding, BMX and scootering.
Practical support will also be available, with free wheel safety checks for all equipment, as well as basic bike repairs.
Alongside the sporting activities, DJ workshops, graffiti-style art sessions and games will run throughout the events, offering something for children and young people with a range of interests.
The events, organised by Mid Sussex District Council, will run from 2pm to 4.30pm on Tuesday, May 26 at St John’s Park in Burgess Hill; Wednesday, May 27 at Victoria Park in Haywards Heath; and Thursday, May 28 at King George’s Field in East Grinstead.
Councillor Anne-Marie Cooke, Cabinet Member for Communities and Communications, said: “Skate Fest is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be active, learn new skills and enjoy free activities in their local parks. By working in partnership with a variety of providers, we’re able to deliver worthwhile, inclusive sessions for families to enjoy this May half term.”
Skate Fest is part of a wider programme of free community events organised by the council for families and young people during the school holidays.
It follows the success of the council’s Playdays programme earlier this year, which attracted more than 1,000 attendees during the April Easter holidays.
