A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman in Durrington.
Police were called to an address in Durrington Lane, Worthing at about 7.50pm on Thursday, 14 May, following concerns for the welfare of a woman.
Emergency services attended the scene, where a 65-year-old woman was sadly pronounced deceased.
A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and assaulting a police constable in the execution of his or her duty and held in police custody.
On 16 May, Alexandru Nechifor, 37, of Durrington Lane, Worthing was charged with murder and two counts of assaulting a police constable in the execution of his or her duty.
He remains in custody ahead of his next court appearance at Worthing Magistrates' Court on Monday 18 May.
Enquiries are ongoing and it has been established that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama, from the Major Crime Team, said: “This remains fast moving investigation and our thoughts continue to be with the woman’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
We understand this incident will have caused concern in the local community; however, we continue to believe it to be an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.”
