A class of children from Rose Green Infant School are preparing to take part in this year’s Fun Run, which is part of the Bognor Prom 10K event in honour of their friend, who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.
The pupils, known as Team Eva, will be running in the junior fun run this Sunday, 17th May, to raise money for Abby’s Heroes.
The charity supports children, teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer, along with their families, through its work linked to Southampton General Hospital.
Team Eva have been training for the event and will be wearing bright pink t-shirts on the day, so supporters can spot them and cheer them on.
The junior fun run forms part of the wider Bognor Prom 10K Road Race, one of the town’s biggest and best-supported sporting events. This year marks the 30th running of the event, which has become a major fixture in the local calendar. Organisers say it is set to be one of the most successful so far, with the junior fun run expected to sell out quickly.
The junior fun run starts at West Park in Bognor Regis and follows a 1.5 kilometre route around Marine Park Gardens. It is not timed, and no results are published, but every child taking part receives a medal.
The main 10K route starts at West Park in Aldwick, follows Bognor Regis Esplanade through Felpham, and then returns along the seafront to finish back at West Park. The course is known for being flat and fast, making it popular with runners chasing personal bests, as well as those taking part for fun or charity.
For Team Eva, though, the day is about much more than running. It is a chance for a class of young children to show love, friendship and support for their classmate, while helping other families facing childhood cancer across the South Coast.
