Four men have been arrested and remain under police guard in hospital following reports of a suspected gunshot in Bexhill and a serious crash near Hastings.
Sussex Police said armed officers and a police dog unit were sent to the Sidley Green area at around 11.50pm on Monday, 8 June, following reports of a disturbance and a suspected gunshot.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the suspected gunshot, but officers are continuing to investigate what happened.
A black Nissan Qashqai was subsequently pursued by police and was involved in a serious collision in Ivyhouse Lane, north of Hastings, during the early hours of Tuesday.
Four men inside the vehicle were injured. One was airlifted to hospital and remains in a serious condition.
The driver, a 26-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Three passengers — aged 21 and 23 from Bexhill and 36 from St Leonards — were arrested on suspicion of affray.
All four remain in hospital under police guard.
Temporary Detective Superintendent Jay Mendis-Gunasekera described the inquiry as a “fast-moving investigation” and said officers were working to establish the full circumstances surrounding both incidents.
He added that an increased police presence would remain in the area because of the concern the incident was likely to cause within the community.
Road closures were put in place in Ivyhouse Lane between Chowns Hill and the crossroads with Moor Lane and Rock Lane, near Three Oaks, while collision investigators examined the scene.
Police want to hear from anyone who was in the Sidley Green area at the time of the reported disturbance, particularly those with CCTV, doorbell, mobile phone or dashcam footage.
Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police online or call 101, quoting Operation Maxim.
