People across the South are being encouraged to learn how to save a life as South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) offers free CPR training at locations across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
The sessions are part of Restart a Heart, a national initiative led by Resuscitation Council UK to raise awareness of the importance of CPR and to encourage more people to learn basic life support skills.
Each year, SECAmb supports the campaign by sending staff and volunteers into schools and community groups to teach lifesaving techniques. This year, the Trust is expanding its efforts by offering training in busy public spaces to reach even more people.
On Thursday 16 October, SECAmb staff will be offering free CPR demonstrations and training at the following locations:
-
Westwood Cross, Ramsgate, Kent
-
Royal Victoria Place, Tunbridge Wells, Kent
-
Swanley AFC, Swanley, Kent
-
Churchill Square, Brighton, Sussex
-
County Mall, Crawley, Sussex
-
The Beacon, Eastbourne, Sussex
-
Priory Meadow, Hastings, Sussex
-
Freedom Leisure, Guildford, Surrey
-
Woking Leisure Centre, Woking, Surrey
Members of the public are invited to attend any of the sessions to learn how to perform CPR and gain confidence in responding to a cardiac arrest emergency.
SECAmb is also encouraging those already trained in CPR to register with the GoodSAM app, a mobile app used by ambulance services to alert first-aid trained volunteers to nearby cardiac arrests while emergency crews are on their way.
Medical experts say that for every minute without effective CPR or defibrillation, a person’s chance of survival decreases by around ten per cent, making quick action by members of the public crucial.
