A 39-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering an 80-year-old man at his home in Worthing.

Arno Engels, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody and is due to stand trial at Lewes Crown Court next March.

The victim, named as Anthony Scarrott, was found seriously injured at his home in West Court Road on 11 September. He later died in hospital.

Earlier this week, Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, described it as a “tragic incident”, adding: “Our thoughts are with Tony’s family and friends. "We are appealing to anyone who may have seen or helped the victim in West Court Road between 7.20pm and 7.40pm on Thursday 11 September to come forward.”

Anyone with information is urged to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Brentford.
