The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across the South, beginning at midnight on Thursday.
Heavy rain forecast for Thursday, continuing until around midnight, could cause disruption across the area, with flooding possible in some locations.
Weather warnings are in place, with forecasters advising that a small number of homes and businesses may be affected by flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Travel disruption is also expected, with bus and train services likely to be impacted. Journey times could be longer than usual due to surface water, spray and standing water on roads.
Drivers are being warned to take extra care, as flooding and poor visibility may make driving conditions hazardous. Some minor interruptions to power supplies and other essential services are also possible as a result of the heavy rainfall.
Residents are being encouraged to check whether their property could be at risk of flooding. Those living in vulnerable areas should consider moving valuable items upstairs, ensuring drains and gullies are clear, and having flood protection measures ready if needed.
Safety advice is also being issued for anyone who may encounter floodwater. People are urged not to walk or drive through floodwater, as it can be deeper and faster-flowing than it appears, and may conceal hazards such as open drains or debris. Drivers are advised to reconsider journeys unless absolutely necessary, and to avoid flooded roads wherever possible.
