Police reassure East Wittering community after girl offered lift by stranger

Police have issued reassurance following reports that a girl was offered a lift by a stranger in a vehicle in East Wittering.

Sussex Police said the incident was reported to officers at around 9pm on Wednesday, 29 July.

The girl declined the offer, and the vehicle left the area, with no further interaction taking place.

Officers from the local investigations department are now carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and determine whether the offer of a lift was well-intentioned.

At this stage, police have not released any other information to the media, such as the road this took place on, the exact time of the incident, or the age of the girl involved.

Police have urged members of the public not to speculate about the incident on social media while their enquiries continue.
