A new Wellbeing Forum is being launched by South East Coast Ambulance Service.
It forms part of a five-year wellbeing strategy aimed at supporting staff, with a focus on shared experience and proactive action.
The forum will allow people to pitch ideas, contribute their stories, and help shape how wellbeing is prioritised across the service.
SECAmb’s chaplaincy services will also continue to provide valuable support to colleagues’ wellbeing. Through the newly-established Wellbeing Forum, work will take place to explore how chaplaincy could be even better utilised and supported across the organisation.
Trauma support pathways, including the SECAmb’s Trauma Risk Management peer-support programme, will also be reviewed to ensure consistent, compassionate care for those affected by distressing incidents.
Chief Executive, Simon Weldon said: “This Wellbeing Strategy is our promise to our colleagues. The three key themes are not just words on paper; they will develop to underpin our commitment to creating a healthier, happier, and more supportive work environment.”
Paramedic, Rosamond Morris kindly shared her personal journey in the strategy’s foreword. She said: “A colleague, who was also a wellbeing advocate, noticed a change in my personality and recommended the Wellbeing Hub. While initially hesitant, I sought help. Through the wellbeing hub, I was able to access treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and within weeks, I noticed significant improvements in my health and wellbeing.
“When difficult incidents occur, we need to ensure staff feel empowered and supported to get the help they need; nobody should be “just another person in green.”
“The wellbeing strategy will set out how SECAmb will develop its wellbeing offer over the next five years, and I am looking forward to supporting delivering the strategy where I can.”
The Wellbeing Strategy will be overseen by the Wellbeing Forum, with progress measured against NHS frameworks and staff survey results.
