A Sussex Police officer has been found not guilty of engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour against his ex-partner following a trial at Kingston Crown Court
PC Sam James Wilson, 31, was charged with the offence following an investigation by the force’s Safeguarding Investigations Unit.
The officer was suspended from duty as soon as the alleged offence was reported.
The court heard that controlling and coercive behaviour was alleged to have occurred between January 2022 and August 2023 on the woman, also a serving police officer, while the pair were in a relationship. It was also alleged it had happened while the officer was on and off duty. He had pleaded not guilty to the offence.
A jury in the trial returned a verdict of not guilty on Monday (9 February) following the six-day trial.
The force will consider misconduct proceedings now that the criminal proceedings have concluded.
