A teenager has been disqualified from driving, after he was caught riding an illegal e-bike in public in Littlehampton.
Officers from the Specialist Enforcement Unit responded to reports of an e-bike being ridden dangerously in the town centre – including on the pavement and almost hitting an elderly dog walker – on 6 January.
The rider, aged 17, was located in Pier Road and detained.
His vehicle was confirmed to be illegal to ride in public and was therefore seized.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid licence or insurance, and convicted at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on 26 February.
He was disqualified from driving for four months and ordered to pay court costs and fines totalling £126.
