It’s another busy weekend of football across the South, with Brighton looking to continue their strong run and a host of local fixtures taking place in the men’s and women’s game.
Saturday fixtures
In the Premier League, Brighton and Hove Albion will be aiming to secure a third straight victory in all competitions when they travel to Wolves. The Seagulls head to Molineux full of confidence, while the hosts sit bottom of the table with just one point from their opening six games.
In the Championship, Portsmouth welcome Middlesbrough to Fratton Park. Pompey will be hoping home advantage can give them the edge in what promises to be a competitive clash.
Southampton, meanwhile, are on the road as they face Derby County, while in League Two Crawley Town travel to Cambridge United for a 3pm kick-off.
Non-league and local action
Attention will also be on Chichester City, who return to Oaklands Park following a difficult few weeks for the club. Forward Billy Vigar, 21, suffered a serious brain injury and later died while playing for the side in a recent match at Wingate and Finchley. In response, Wingate have switched their next two home fixtures to their opponents’ grounds. Despite the tragic news, Chichester City will go ahead with their home fixture against Farnham Town at 3pm.
Elsewhere in non-league football, Worthing are away to Maidenhead United, while Bognor Regis Town host Ascot United at Nyewood Lane. Selsey continue their run of away matches, this time travelling to Oakwood for a 3pm kick-off.
Sunday fixtures
On Sunday, Brighton and Hove Albion Women are in Women’s Super League action against Tottenham Hotspur. The match is a key test for the side as they look to build momentum early in the season.
In the Women’s Championship, Portsmouth Women face a long trip to Nottingham Forest, playing at the City Ground. Southampton Women are also away, taking on Birmingham City.
At National League level, Worthing Women meet Maidenhead United, with kick-off set for 2pm.
And in the youth game, Selsey Under-18s face Chichester Under-18s in the Youth Cup, with that match starting at 11am on Sunday morning.
Looking ahead
With fixtures spread across the weekend, clubs from the Premier League to grassroots football will be looking to build on recent performances. Brighton’s push for a third consecutive victory headlines the schedule, but with important games across the divisions, it promises to be a packed two days of football for fans across the South.
