West Sussex confirms 30 new on-street EV chargepoint sites

West Sussex’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network is set to expand, with 30 new on-street chargepoint locations confirmed following a countywide consultation.

The project is being led by West Sussex County Council in partnership with district and borough councils and delivery partner Connected Kerb. As part of the rollout, the new sites will include additional underground wiring to make future expansion easier and more cost-effective.

The West Sussex Chargepoint Network already offers hundreds of accessible charging points on streets and in public car parks—particularly benefiting residents without access to a private driveway.

With the government’s 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars approaching, the network is set to keep growing in the coming years, supporting the county’s transition to cleaner, greener transport.

Councillor Joy Dennis, the county council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, welcomed the latest expansion: “The growing network of chargepoints directly supports our residents in making the switch to electric vehicles as we approach the 2035 deadline. This ongoing work underpins our commitment to a greener, more sustainable West Sussex for everyone.

“Crucially, no changes to existing parking arrangements are proposed at this time; other vehicles can continue to park as usual, but we do encourage considerate parking to ensure EV drivers have access to charging points. Any future changes to parking restrictions would, of course, be subject to the normal consultation process.”
