West Sussex County Council has paid £400 to a mum following a delay in providing speech and language therapy for her child.
A report from the Local Government & Social Care Ombudsman stated that the council would pay the woman – known as Mrs X – £200 for the delay, £100 for the frustration and distress caused, and £100 for the time and trouble caused by the authority’s late response to her complaint.
The council has apologised to Mrs X; and the Ombudsman said they were satisfied that steps were being taken to resolve the issue.
A council spokesman said the authority remained ‘committed to improving services for families.’, adding: “We accept the Ombudsman’s findings regarding delays in providing speech and language therapy support and responding to the complaint.
“During the complaint process, we apologised to the complainant, arranged for the provision to be delivered with catch-up sessions and introduced service improvements to strengthen communication and ensure complaints are responded to within our published time-scales.”
