Chichester Police is calling on the community to help them prevent hare coursing
The force says it's an illegal blood sport and if you notice anything suspicious, you should report it to the police.
They say there are many signs to look out for, including:
- Groups of 4x4 vehicles parked in rural areas, by a gateway to farmland, on a grass verge, or on a farm track or bridle path
- Estate cars, four wheel drives or vans with lurcher type dogs inside
- Groups of people using binoculars to spot hares
- Coursers often walk along the edge of a field to frighten a hare into the open
Officers say they're continuing to work with their partners and rural communities to combat this crime, and are asking locals to call 999 immediately if you witness hare coursing, or report it online if you suspect the illegal activity is happening in your area.
