Yellow weather warning remains in place for Sussex

A Met Office Yellow Weather Warning for Wind will remain in place until 3pm on Monday 21 February.

Further periods of strong winds are expected across much of England and Wales today (Sunday)  and tomorrow which may cause some disruption.

On Friday (February 18), the red warning storm battered West Sussex as winds of over 70mph hit. Disruption was caused as train lines were blocked, flights were cancelled and roads were closed.

As clean up operations continue across Sussex, the yellow warning for wind  "could hamper recovery efforts from storm Eunice" according to the Met Office.

What to expect today

  • Some delays to road, rail, and ferry transport are likely.
  • Delays or restrictions for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
  • Some damage to infrastructure and trees/branches is possible, especially where made more vulnerable by Storm Eunice.
  • Power outages are possible, and efforts to restore power to areas which have had interrupted supply in the wake of Storm Eunice are likely to be hampered.

Recycling Centres

West Sussex County Council say Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Shoreham-by-Sea and Worthing Recycling Centres are due to reopen today (20 th February), in line with normal operating hours, for customers who have an existing booking.

This may change at short notice, should the weather worsen. The safety of residents and our staff is our primary concern.

All other Recycling Centres (Billingshurst, Burgess Hill, Chichester, Crawley, East Grinstead, Horsham and Midhurst) re-opened yesterday (19 February).
