Tudor Cultural Heroines and The Amberley Panels
Tuesday 4 August, 6.30pm at The Novium Museum

In February 2026, a set of rare oak panel paintings, known as The Amberley Panels, left The Novium Museum ahead of an extensive programme of conservation work. The 8 panel paintings, which feature Heroines of Antiquity, were painted ahead of King Henry VIII’s Royal Progress to Sussex in c.1526.

This one-hour talk, led by Professor Anthony Musson (Historic Royal Palaces) and Professor Kate Giles (University of York) from the Henry VIII on Tour project, will look at The Amberley Panels in the context of Henry VIII’s Royal Progress to Sussex in July and August 1526. There will also be discussion about the ongoing conservation, technical investigation and restoration campaign of the panels by Christine Kimbriel (Hamilton Kerr Institute, University of Cambridge) and Tom Bobak (Bobak Conservation) providing an overview of the full conservation and restoration campaign planned for the panels, before their return to The Novium Museum in 2028

Tickets £1 per person.
