Leeds Rhinos Women 12-50 Wigan Warriors Women: Nine-try Warriors obliterate second-place Rhinos in further show of dominance

Wigan Warriors Women scored nine tries in a 50-6 domination of Leeds Rhinos Women at MT Headingley Stadium in the Super Fours of the Women’s Super League.

Leeds had hoped of moving a step closer to wrapping up a home semi-final but Wigan were simply too strong.

Wigan scored six tries in the first half through a Meg Williams and Anna Davies double, with further tries from Ruby Hunter, and Mary Coleman. Izzy Rowe converted four as they romped 34-6 ahead.

Leeds' Ruby Bruce did go over for a converted effort.

They then added three more via Ellise Derbyshire, Eva Hunter, and Izzy Rowe, a late sin bin for Lucie Sams for a trip allowing Leeds on the scoresheet once again through Connie Boyd.

However, it was merely a consolation as Denis Betts' side made it eight wins out of eight this season and 12 in a row in total.

Wigan continue hunt for historic back-to-back treble and unbeaten run

Wigan were the favourites in the contest, and it did not take long for them to start their scoring and startle their opponents when Williams barrelled over from short range under the sticks just three minutes in and Rowe slotted over the extras.

The visitors were not going to slow down and it was not long until Hunter went through a gap and then Coleman added their third. Rowe converted both to see Wigan 18-0 up inside the first 15 minutes. Leeds were simply stunned.

Within 20 minutes, Williams had her second as Wigan made light work of Leeds. Rowe's conversion made it 24-0 and it looked like they were only just getting started.

Leeds tried to get back into the game but just as they thought they had put the pressure on, Davies raced all the way 90 metres downfield, putting the afterburners on, and then added a second off the back of a sensational Rowe pass to make it six tries for Wigan and a comprehensive 34-0 lead.

The home team did hit back just before half-time as Bruce powered over but the 34-6 deficit was going to be a lot to overcome.

While Leeds managed to keep things tighter in the second half they still could not stop Wigan's try scoring prowess as Derbyshire went over before reigning Woman of Steel Hunter used her strength to go over. Rowe converted both to put Wigan 44-6 before she got in on the action herself.

A show and go sent the No 7 in under the sticks and her conversion took Wigan to the half-century mark.

They did suffer a late yellow card as Sams was sent for a 10-minute sit down for a trip and in that time, there was the biggest cheer of the night as Boyd sent the dummy and found the gap for the home outfit.

Wigan Warriors have put in a flawless campaign and had already wrapped up the League Leaders' Shield to keep their bid for a back-to-back treble on track. That earned Wigan a bye straight through to the Grand Final, which will be staged at their own Brick Community Stadium on Sunday September 27, live on Sky Sports with a 5.30pm kick-off.

Their opponents will be decided on September 18, when the sides finishing second and third meet in the semi-final.

The Grand Final forms part of a double-header, with the promotion play-off final staged before the main event as the winners of the Women's Championship face the team finishing fourth in the BWSL Shield competition.
