A groundworker has admitted killing one child and seriously injuring two others in a crash whilst being over the limit for drink and drugs, police said.

Jamie Fountain, 24, was driving a BMW 318D near Flitwick, Bedfordshire, when he collided with three teenage boys - two riding a bicycle and the other on a scooter.

The car briefly slowed down before continuing along Greenfield Road towards Flitwick following the incident around 11.40pm on 3 April, Bedfordshire Police said.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but 13-year-old Noah Campbell was pronounced dead a short time later.

The two other boys were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Fountain's damaged car was found deserted in a nearby street shortly afterwards and he was then arrested.

At Northampton Crown Court on Friday, Fountain - of Flitwick - pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by careless driving while over the legal limit for alcohol and one count of causing death by careless driving while over the legal limit for drugs, officers said.

He also admitted two counts of causing serious injury by careless driving in relation to the two other boys.

In a tribute, Noah's family previously said he was a "fun, bright, handsome, athletic and incredibly well-liked boy".

His family said: "Above all else, he cherished spending time with his friends and family; they were the heart of his world.

"We are utterly devastated; Noah's death has left a hole in our lives that will remain forever."

Detective Sergeant Shona Searle, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire serious collision investigation unit, said: "Noah was just 13 years old and had his whole life ahead of him, while the other two boys will live with the physical and emotional impact of this collision for the rest of their lives."

Fountain will be sentenced on 25 September, police said.

Passenger Ellie Ireland, of Ampthill, denied perverting the course of justice at an earlier hearing, the force confirmed.
