Local charities are being invited to join fundraising teams at Airbourne: Eastbourne International Airshow in return for a share of donations collected during the event.
The seafront show returns from 13 to 16 August and bucket collectors will be out across the town over all four days. Visitors will be encouraged to donate to help secure the future of the UK’s biggest free airshow. The bucket collections are co-ordinated by the Rotary Club of Hailsham, Eastbourne Hospitality Association and a large team of volunteers. They play a major role in helping to fund the flying displays. Each year, volunteer collector teams support the appeal, with charities receiving 30% of the donations they collect. Since 2012, more than £100,000 has been raised for good causes. Eastbourne Borough Council's Lead Member for Tourism & Place, Cllr Jenny Williams said, "The UK's best free airshow, and one of the biggest events in Sussex, can only continue with a considerable amount of donations and commercial support. "It is thanks to the brilliant army of bucket collectors that we have kept this event flying high in recent years, however we desperately need more charity volunteers to capture vital donations from the hundreds of thousands of visitors attending, as well as raising much needed funds for local good causes." Charities can apply by completing the online form by 15 June and pledging volunteers to take part. Volunteer roles are also available across the airshow, including wayfinding, public information and emergency response support. Bucket collectors and volunteers will receive free parking, with Park n Ride permits supplied each day. This year’s flying line-up includes the RAF Red Arrows, Typhoon, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Royal Navy Black Cats, MiG-17, F-86 Sabre and Aerosuperbatics Wingwalkers. Fans can also support the event through one-off donations or monthly pledges from £2 at SaveAirbourne.com.
