An amber heat-health alert will come into force across the South tomorrow as the fourth heatwave of the year approaches.
The UK Health Security Agency has warned that rising temperatures could pose a risk to health, particularly for older people, young children and those with existing medical conditions.
Temperatures are expected to climb towards 30C in some areas, with the hot weather likely to place additional pressure on health and social care services.
The amber alert will begin tomorrow morning and remain in place until Thursday.
People are being advised to take precautions during the hottest parts of the day, including drinking plenty of water, keeping homes as cool as possible and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity.
Residents are also being encouraged to check on vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbours who may be more affected by the heat.
The alert comes as forecasters predict another spell of hot and settled weather across southern England.
Health officials say prolonged high temperatures can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses.
Anyone planning to spend time outdoors is advised to use sunscreen, wear light clothing and seek shade where possible.
