Car park improvements are among a number of projects included in Chichester District Council’s new Corporate Plan.
The plan, which covers 2026 to 2030, is a business planning document that sets out the council’s future priorities and objectives. It is scheduled to be approved by the full council later this month.
The projects listed for the coming years include £127,000 for work at the Northgate and Bosham car parks – relining both car parks and adding some parking bays at the Northgate site; better signage and planting, new information boards, and resurfacing where needed.
Another £235,000 has been lined up to create a walking, cycling and wheeling path through Oaklands Park, connecting Wellington Road to Oaklands Way.
A construction company is expected to be appointed by October, with the path completed by January 2027.
During a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday (January 6), Adrian Moss, leader of the council, laid out some of the highlights for the coming year.
They included delivering the action plan from the council’s Housing, Homelessness & Rough Sleeping Strategy 2025-2030; supporting communities during the on-going cost of living crisis; improving health and well-being; and implementing a new Climate Emergency Action Plan.
Mr Moss added: “To ensure we do this and prepare this council for the challenges of Local Government reform we will continue to use our resources prudently and to the benefit of our residents.
“It is imperative that we look forward over the horizon and have a strong Corporate Plan that helps give direction and support to the new unitary council.”
Other projects in the plan include £65,000 for a rolling wheel HGV brake tester for Chichester Contract Services. The equipment is needed due to new legislation which means the council must carry out more frequent fully laden brake tests on its fleet of vehicles.
