Crawley MP Peter Lamb has welcomed new government proposals aimed at preventing children and young people from becoming addicted to nicotine.
The government has launched a 12-week UK-wide consultation on measures which would standardise the appearance, packaging and display of vaping and nicotine products.
The proposed changes include plain white packaging for vaping products, restrictions on colourful branding and imagery, standardised device colours and tighter rules governing flavour descriptions.
Stricter controls are also being considered for the way vaping and nicotine products are displayed in shops.
The measures are designed to make vaping products less attractive to children while ensuring they remain available as a tool to help adult smokers quit.
The consultation forms part of the Tobacco and Vapes Act, which the government says is intended to create the first smoke-free generation and help break the cycle of nicotine addiction.
Mr Lamb, the Labour MP for Crawley, said: "Every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy and free from addiction. While vapes can play an important role in helping adult smokers quit, they should never be designed or marketed in ways that appeal to children.
"Labour promised to tackle youth vaping, and we are delivering. These proposals build on our landmark Tobacco and Vapes Act, helping to create the first smoke-free generation while protecting young people from becoming hooked on nicotine.
"Preventing ill health is one of the best investments we can make in our NHS. By stopping addiction before it starts, we can improve public health, reduce future pressure on our health service and help deliver the healthier future set out in Labour's 10 Year Health Plan."
