A Jackdaw, trapped in netting on the roof of a block of flats in Eastbourne, has now been set free.
The bird was first spotted last month on Upperton Road, tangled in roof netting. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service worked alongside East Sussex Wildlife Rescue to safely free it.
After weeks of care and rehabilitation, the jackdaw has now been released back into the same area.
Resident Thomas Hines, who first raised the alarm, described the moment he saw the bird in distress from his kitchen window. He said: “I was shocked to see the bird trapped in the netting, which is really dangerous for birds, and knew I had to do something, so my partner and I called East Sussex Wildlife Rescue. Later that evening, one of their volunteers arrived with the fire service, who were more than happy to help.
“Last week, we had a call to say the bird had made a full recovery and was being released where it was found.”
