Applications have opened for a new intake onto the apprenticeship programme at London Gatwick Airport, offering aspiring engineers the opportunity to begin their careers in one of the UK’s most dynamic working environments.
This year, the airport is recruiting four apprentices in total, including three Electro/Mechanical apprentices and one Heavy Vehicle apprentice. All successful candidates will start their roles in August and will become part of teams responsible for keeping the airport running safely and efficiently.
Apprentices on both pathways will work at the heart of the world’s busiest single-runway airport, gaining hands-on experience with specialist engineering systems and equipment. The roles will see apprentices tackling real operational challenges, while learning from experienced professionals who play a key role in Gatwick’s day-to-day performance and long-term resilience.
The Electro/Mechanical apprenticeship is a four-year programme, beginning with a Level 3 qualification. During the third and fourth years, apprentices will progress to a Level 4 Higher National Certificate in engineering. On completion, participants will graduate with both Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications, as well as Engineering Technician professional registration, known as EngTech.
The Heavy Vehicle apprenticeship is a three-year programme, also starting at Level 3. Apprentices will develop the technical skills needed to maintain and repair specialist vehicles used across the airport estate. On successful completion, apprentices will gain professional membership, supporting their progression into long-term engineering careers.
London Gatwick says the programme is designed to support the next generation of engineers by combining structured learning with practical, on-the-job experience. The airport adds that apprenticeships play a key role in developing future talent and supporting the continued success of its engineering and operational teams.
Applications are now open, with places expected to be competitive.
