Junior membership at Chichester Golf Club has reached 142, with the club reporting growing participation among young players in the area.
The club says its coaching structure is helping children progress from first-time beginners through to playing on a full 18-hole course.
A major part of the junior programme is Operation 36, led by PGA Professional James Browne.
The six-week scheme takes a different approach to traditional golf coaching by starting young players just 25 yards from the hole.
They then progress to 50 yards before gradually moving further back as their ability develops, with the eventual aim of playing the full course from the blue tees.
The programme also uses an app featuring coaching videos, challenges and leaderboards, while junior competitions are held to give players experience of competitive golf.
The club says the approach is designed to make the sport less intimidating for children and provide a clearer pathway for those who want to continue playing.
Aaron Squires, General Manager at Chichester Golf Club, said: “We’re incredibly proud to now have 142 junior members. For us, it’s about much more than simply teaching children how to play golf - we want them to enjoy being here, make friends, build confidence and feel part of the club.
“To see so many local young people and families getting involved is fantastic and hopefully we can inspire many more to discover the game in the years ahead.”
James Browne, PGA Professional, added: “Golf can sometimes feel intimidating when you’re starting out, so our aim is to make that first experience as fun and achievable as possible.
“Operation 36 gives every junior something to work towards, whether that’s completing a 25 yard course, progressing to the next level or eventually playing the full course. Watching children gain confidence, improve their skills and genuinely fall in love with the game is hugely rewarding.”
The club also uses its short course and driving range as part of its junior development programme.
