Worthing man arrested over alleged inappropriate behaviour on seafront

A 38-year-old man from Worthing has been arrested following a number of reported incidents on Worthing seafront during July and August.

Sussex Police said the arrest followed an investigation into reports of inappropriate sexual behaviour in the area, including harassment and reports of a man acting indecently.

The man has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

His bail conditions prevent him from entering the seafront area south of West Parade, Marine Parade and Beach Parade.

Police said officers have carried out targeted patrols, reviewed CCTV and made extensive local enquiries as part of the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Noel Simmonds said: “We understand that the incidents reported to us have caused some distress.

“Our investigation remains ongoing as we build a clear picture of the incidents that have taken place in the Worthing seafront area.

“If you witnessed any incident of inappropriate behaviour, or have experienced or seen something that concerned you, we would urge you to contact Sussex Police quoting Operation Saltwater.

“No matter how small you may think the information is, it could help us with our ongoing enquiries and ensure we have as full a picture as possible.”
