A Gosport man has pleaded guilty to attempted false imprisonment and trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence after breaking into a home in Rogate.

Christopher Buxey, who is 42, of Privett Place, Gosport, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday, 4 July.

The court heard that in the early hours of Thursday, 4 June, a 13-year-old girl woke to find Buxey standing over her bed. He was known to her family and was wearing a balaclava and holding cable ties.

The girl screamed, alerting her parents, who called police.

Buxey assaulted the girl’s parents as he tried to escape, but he was detained until officers arrived at the address soon afterwards.

He was arrested and taken into custody. He was later charged with attempted kidnap, knowingly or recklessly trespassing on a premises with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence, and actual bodily harm.

He first appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 6 June, where he was remanded into custody.

At Monday’s crown court hearing, Buxey pleaded guilty to trespassing on a premises with intent to commit a relevant sexual offence, and actual bodily harm. He denied attempted kidnap, but admitted attempted false imprisonment, which was accepted by the court.

During the same hearing, Buxey also pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration, two counts of taking indecent photographs of a child, and three counts of making indecent photographs of a child. Those offences relate to a separate investigation in Hampshire.

He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on September 25.

Detective Chief Inspector Ali Hutchings said: "These were highly distressing ordeals for the victims and their families who are continuing to receive support from specialist trained officers.

"Officers in Sussex and Hampshire have been working tirelessly to collate evidence to bring these cases to court and we now await the sentencing of Buxey after his guilty pleas."
