Alexandra Theatre renamed as part of new cultural vision for Bognor Regis
Bognor Regis is set for a new chapter in its cultural life, as the Alexandra Theatre is officially renamed Alexandra Arts Centre.
The change marks a major shift in ambition for the venue, which is being reimagined in partnership with Arun District Council as a more vibrant and inclusive space for creativity, community activity and entertainment.
While the Alexandra Theatre has long been a much-loved part of the town’s heritage, the new name reflects plans to expand its role beyond a traditional performance venue.
Alexandra Arts Centre will host a wide-ranging programme, including theatre, live music, comedy, film, workshops and community-led events. It will also include welcoming social spaces designed to bring people together throughout the day and into the evening.
Ollie Jeffery, Vice-Chair at Alexandra Arts Centre, said: “This is more than a name change, it’s a statement of intent. Alexandra Arts Centre reflects who we are becoming - open, ambitious and rooted in the community. We want this to be a place where everyone feels they belong, whether they’re here to watch, take part or simply spend time.”
Cllr Martin Lury, Leader at Arun District Council, said: “The renaming of the Alexandra Arts Centre represents an important milestone in the regeneration of Bognor Regis. This will be a space that supports creativity, wellbeing and economic growth, and we’re proud to be part of its future.”
The new identity signals a renewed focus on access, participation and community engagement, with the venue expected to play a central role in the town’s ongoing regeneration.
Further updates, including reopening and programme details, will be shared as plans progress.
