A prolific shoplifter has been jailed following a targeted theft campaign at a single shop in Bexhill.
John Walker, 47, stole over £900 worth of items including chocolate, sweets, meat, spirits, beer and wine from One Shop in Turkey Road, Bexhill.
On a number of occasions, Walker stole from the shop multiple times a day.
His three-month shoplifting spree was brought to an end when he was arrested on 4 August during which he assaulted two officers, ripping the windscreen wiper from a nearby vehicle in an attempt to use it as a weapon.
Walker was held in police custody and charged on 6 August with 18 counts of theft from a shop, assault of a constable, obstructing or resisting arrest, and criminal damage.
He appeared the same morning at Brighton Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to all offences and was sentenced.
John Walker, 47, of Preston Road, Bexhill was jailed for four months and ordered to pay a total of £1378 in compensation.
Police Sergeant Tom Mele said: “Walker showed a flagrant disregard for both people and property throughout his offending.
“Sussex Police will continue to tackle shoplifting across the county and ensure prolific offenders are brought to justice.”
