Seven local organisations across Arun are to share £15,000 in community safety grants to help reduce crime, deter antisocial behaviour and support vulnerable people.

The funding has been awarded by the Safer Arun Partnership through its Community Safety Grant Fund, which was launched at the start of February and fully allocated within just six weeks.

The money will support projects designed to improve feelings of safety and make a practical difference in neighbourhoods across the district.

Successful applicants will use the funding for a range of activities, including youth diversion and engagement programmes, environmental improvements, support services for vulnerable people and community-led safety initiatives.

The partnership says the grants will help deliver its priorities of reducing crime, safeguarding people most at risk and supporting stronger communities.

Chair of the Safer Arun Partnership, Councillor Alan Butcher, said: “We are proud to support these seven organisations who submitted applications that the Safer Arun Partnership feel will play an important role in strengthening community safety across Arun. Each funded project brings people together, supports those who may be vulnerable, and helps to ensure our district remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone. These are local projects for local people.”

The strong response to the fund has highlighted the number of community-led safety projects already operating across Arun.

As a result, the Safer Arun Partnership has confirmed that further funding will be made available for a second round of grants later in the year. That will allow more organisations to apply for support for projects aimed at reducing crime, preventing harm and improving community wellbeing.

The Safer Arun Partnership brings together a range of local agencies, including Arun District Council, Sussex Police, West Sussex County Council, NHS partners, probation services and voluntary sector organisations.

By working together, the partnership aims to prevent crime and antisocial behaviour, reduce harm and improve wellbeing for residents across the Arun district.
