Seven new on-call firefighters have officially joined West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service after completing their initial two-week training course.
The new recruits received their certificates during a pass out parade at Platinum House in Horsham on Friday, 22 May. The event was attended by proud family members and colleagues, marking an important milestone in the firefighters’ careers.
On-call firefighters play a vital role in protecting local communities across West Sussex. Many carry out their emergency response duties alongside full-time jobs, responding to incidents from home or work when they are needed.
The latest recruits all live or work close to one of the service’s fire stations, allowing them to respond quickly to emergencies in their local areas.
Certificates were presented by the Director of West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, Sabrina Pennington-Down, and Area Manager for Service Delivery, Ady Carter.
Speaking after the event, Sabrina Pennington-Down said: “It’s a real privilege to welcome our newest on-call firefighters into West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service.
“They have demonstrated great commitment, resilience and teamwork throughout their training, and should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved. I wish them every success as they begin their journey with us.”
Area Manager for Service Delivery, Ady Carter, added: “Completing the initial training course is a significant achievement, and these recruits have set a high standard from the outset.
“They have shown the professionalism, determination and community spirit that we look for in our firefighters. They are now ready to serve their communities, and I have no doubt they will become valued members of their crews.”
The new firefighters are Joe Penegar, Adam Woodruff and Cameron Campbell, who will be based at Bognor; William Davies, who will be based at Worthing; Luke Neal and Callum Palmer, who will be based at Horsham; and William Lord, who will be based at Burgess Hill.
