A yellow weather warning for heavy rain is coming into force across the South later this morning, with residents being urged to stay alert to changing conditions.
The Met Office says the warning will run from 9am until 10pm tonight, covering much of southern England. Forecasters warn that periods of heavy and persistent rain could lead to difficult travel conditions, surface water flooding, and localised disruption.
The heaviest downpours are expected at times through the day, with the potential for large amounts of rain to fall in a short space of time. This could cause flooding on roads, delays to public transport, and possible impacts to homes and businesses in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for journeys, watch out for spray and standing water, and avoid driving through floodwater where possible.
The Met Office says further updates will be issued if conditions worsen, and people are encouraged to keep up to date with local forecasts and any flood alerts or warnings in their area.
The warning is due to expire at 10 pm tonight, once the heaviest rain is expected to clear.
