An air ambulance remains at Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre, several hours after being sent to the scene of a nearby road incident.
The helicopter was pictured on the sports field, where the centre has subsequently warned that its Sports and Recreation Field will be closed to sporting activities for up to 24 hours to allow emergency vehicles to access the area.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre said the closure was due to “emergency vehicle access”.
The centre also asked parents to make children and teenagers aware that footballs must not be played anywhere near emergency vehicles.
Dog walkers have also been urged to keep their dogs on leads and away from emergency vehicles, emergency crews and the air ambulance.
The centre confirmed that the social club, tennis courts, bowls club, shooting club, railway club and children's playground remain unaffected and are available as usual.
An eyewitness at the scene said the helicopter appeared to have an issue with its rotor blades.
A spokesperson for the Air Ambulance Charity Surrey Sussex (KSS) said: "After attending an incident in Chichester yesterday afternoon, one of our helicopters experienced a minor technical issue prior to take-off.
"The aircraft has remained secure overnight, and engineers are on site assessing the issue.
"Our service continues to operate, with our second helicopter and Rapid Response Vehicles available to respond to incidents as required, and we do not anticipate any significant disruption."
