Ferring Country Centre plans for overflow car park

Plans to make the overflow car park at Ferring Country Centre permanent have been submitted to Arun District Council

If proposals are approved, a 4,500-square-metre grass field at the site, in Rife Way, Ferring, would be converted into a 160 space car park.

The current use of the field as an overflow car park is limited to 28 days per year, which the applicant says is no longer sufficient to accommodate demand during peak times.

A Biodiversity Net Gain Plan attached to the application proposes the addition of a native horse-friendly hedgerow and an area for wildflowers, to provide ‘long-term habitat improvements’ for local wildlife.

Environment Agency data indicates a very low risk of flooding despite a 250sqm area that lies within Flood Zone 2. Additionally, the proposed overflow parking area would not be used when ground conditions are excessively wet.

The centre operates a garden centre, café, soft play area and farm and provide opportunities to those with learning disabilities.

A decision is due by October 1, with comments open until September 11.
