Heat-health alert comes to an end across the South

A yellow Heat-Health Alert covering the South comes to an end at 9 am today (18.08.2026), following the recent spell of hot weather across the region.

The alert has been in place as temperatures remained high, with health officials warning that prolonged heat can place additional pressure on vulnerable people and health and social care services.

Conditions are still expected to remain warm across parts of the South East on Tuesday, although temperatures are forecast to be less exceptional than during the hottest part of the recent spell.

There are currently no Met Office weather warnings in force for the region for Tuesday.

Residents are still being encouraged to take sensible precautions in warm weather, including keeping hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to strong sunshine and checking on elderly or vulnerable relatives and neighbours.

The end of the heat-health alert marks an easing of the recent period of heightened concern, although temperatures are expected to remain summery across much of the region.
