Police in Lewes are urging motorcycle owners to take extra security precautions as thefts continue to be reported across the district.
Lewes Police say motorcycles, mopeds and scooters are being targeted because of their portability and value, and the issue remains a concern for riders and residents.
Local policing teams have been made aware of the trend and officers are being asked to remain alert to suspicious activity while on patrol and when working in local communities.
Police say they are also continuing to share crime prevention advice online and directly with motorcycle owners during patrols and local operations.
Owners are being advised to consider fitting a tracking device, approved alarm or immobiliser to deter thieves and improve the chances of recovering a bike if it is stolen.
Where possible, motorcycles should be kept out of sight when not in use and stored in a securely locked garage or shed.
Police are also recommending the use of good-quality locks and chains, with motorcycles secured to a fixed object or ground anchor where possible.
Riders are being encouraged to park in well-lit and busy locations and to use several layers of security rather than relying on a single lock.
Lewes Police also warned owners never to leave keys in the ignition or a motorcycle running unattended, even for a short period.
Property marking and security registration schemes are also being recommended, as marked motorcycles can be more difficult for thieves to sell and easier for police to identify if recovered.
Police say they will continue to make the public aware of arrests, charges and court outcomes where these are secured in connection with motorcycle thefts.
