Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses after a 49-year-old man was assaulted in Preston Park, Brighton.
The incident happened at around 1.30pm on Thursday, 30 July, near The Rotunda Café.
Police say a man and a woman were in the park when a verbal altercation took place between them and another man.
During the confrontation, the 49-year-old suffered injuries to his face after being physically assaulted.
The other man then left the scene with another woman and a child.
Sussex Police say officers are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are also keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, mobile phone footage or other information which could assist the investigation.
