The A29 Church Hill in Pulborough remains closed while essential safety works continue on the banks on either side of the road.

West Sussex County Council say the closure was put in place to allow work to be carried out to improve safety along the route.

Work on one side of the road was completed last week, but the planned schedule was paused after a legal injunction was obtained by one of the landowners shortly before the next phase was due to begin.

An application was made to the court to have the injunction lifted as a priority so the remaining safety works could be completed.

Due to the availability of specialist equipment, and the time needed to move concrete blocks, a decision was taken to keep the road closed while the court’s decision was awaited.

The court has now confirmed it will partially lift the injunction, allowing the majority of the planned safety works to go ahead.

Tree works are now set to restart, although specific trees remain subject to restrictions and cannot currently be worked on.

The closure has had to be extended to allow the work to continue. Officials say that while an extension is not ideal, it will allow more of the required safety work to be completed while helping to minimise further disruption for local residents.

Once the works have been completed, the concrete blocks will be reinstated and the road will reopen.

The A29 Church Hill is currently expected to reopen by 6th May.
