Plans to open a dog walking area in Bosham have been submitted to Chichester District Council.
The application from Eric Brinkman Farm Management seeks permission to change the use of a two-acre site on the corner of Chequer Lane and Walton Lane.
If the change is approved the site – to be known as The Dog Wood – will be enclosed by 1.9m deer stock fencing, with two gates and a double parking bay. The hedging which currently borders the site will stay in place and will be managed through annual cutting outside of the bird nesting season.
The site will only be open during daylight hours, meaning no lighting will be needed, and dog owners will have to pre-book a session online for a maximum of three dogs per slot.
A statement submitted with the application said: “The Dog Wood offers a carefully considered, environmentally sensitive addition to Bosham’s rural landscape. It provides a secure, inclusive, and much-needed space for local dog owners while enhancing the site’s natural biodiversity through new planting, habitat creation, and careful stewardship of existing trees and hedgerows.
“This modest rural diversification project works with, rather than against, the landscape – bringing genuine community benefit with minimal impact on the beauty, tranquillity, and ecological value of the AONB.”
