People attending Brighton and Hove Pride are being urged to take extra care on the roads, near traffic and along the seafront as large crowds are expected across the city.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has issued water, fire and road safety advice ahead of the celebrations next weekend.
Fire crews will be outside Preston Circus Fire Station throughout the day to meet residents and visitors and share advice on preventing accidents and emergencies.
The service’s Safety Duck mascot has also received a makeover and will return to social media to promote water, road and fire safety.
People planning to drink alcohol are being advised to stay with friends, arrange their journey home in advance and keep away from the water’s edge.
Anyone who sees somebody in difficulty in the water should call 999, encourage them to float on their back and throw them rescue equipment or another object that floats.
Those who find themselves in trouble should follow the RNLI’s Float to Live advice by tilting their head back, keeping their ears submerged, relaxing and controlling their breathing. They should move their hands to remain afloat before calling for help or swimming to safety once the initial shock has passed.
The fire service is also warning that recent hot weather and dry ground could increase the risk of fires during busy outdoor events.
Cigarettes should be fully extinguished before being disposed of, while battery-powered items such as vapes and lights must be placed in appropriate recycling bins.
Visitors are being told not to bring flares, sparklers or fireworks and to ensure emergency exits and access routes remain clear. Anyone who discovers a fire should move to a safe place and call 999.
Drivers and pedestrians are also being asked to plan their journeys and remain alert around the city.
