A sinkhole which appeared on a street in Bognor Regis is being repaired.
Investigation and repair works are underway on Yapton Road.
West Sussex Highways has been dealing with the incident and work is taking place to assess the cause of the sinkhole and make the road safe for drivers and pedestrians.
The road has been closed while the investigation and repairs are carried out, with motorists being advised to avoid the area where possible and allow extra time for their journeys.
It is understood the road is expected to reopen by 4pm today, provided the repair work can be completed safely and no further issues are found during the investigation.
Sinkholes can form when the ground beneath a road surface gives way, sometimes due to drainage issues, underground services, or ground movement. Engineers usually need to inspect the area before the road can safely reopen.
