Nine-year-old girl taken to major trauma unit after Baffins, Portsmouth cycling accident

A nine-year-old girl has been taken to a major trauma unit following a serious cycling accident at Tamworth Field in Baffins.

South Central Ambulance Service said they received a 999 call at 10.49am on Monday, 17 August, reporting that the child had fallen from her bicycle.

During the fall, the bike’s handlebars became impaled in the girl’s upper thigh or hip.

A local fire service co-responder car and an ambulance were sent to the scene, along with the critical-care car and helicopter from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Emergency teams treated the girl at the park before she was taken by road ambulance to the major trauma unit at University Hospital Southampton.

The air ambulance helicopter was among the emergency-service vehicles seen in the area during the response.

No further information has been released about the girl’s condition.

Tamworth Field, which is also known locally as Tamworth Park, is a public open space accessible from Tamworth Road and Walsall Road in Baffins.
